Each year, Monkey 47's master distiller searches for a single rare botanical—the Species Rara—to add as the 48th ingredient in this limited annual release. Only 4,000 bottles are produced worldwide. The base recipe already includes 47 hand-picked botanicals from the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) region of Germany, macerated and distilled in a process combining maceration, percolation, and oxidation, then rested in traditional earthenware vessels. Founded in 2010 by Alexander Stein, inspired by the story of RAF Wing Commander Montgomery Collins and a hand-labeled bottle of gin found during a guesthouse renovation. 375ml format.
