Matthieu Godme-Guillaume Champagne Extra Brut 1er Cru V.V.V NV
Matthieu Godmé-Guillaume took over his family domaine in 2019, representing the third generation in Verzenay on the Montagne de Reims. His 5.35 hectares are nestled between the Grand Cru villages of Verzy and Verzenay and the Premier Cru village of Villers-Marmery—hence V.V.V. He farms sustainably, using only organic fertilizers and renouncing herbicides, while in the cellar, fermentations use indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels he often selects himself. The wine spends at least 15 months on lees before release with just 4 g/l dosage. No fining, no filtration. Vines average 30-40 years old on distinctive chalk terroir. The result shows saline minerality, stone fruit, and subtle vanilla from the oak aging—an emerging grower making wine with both respect for tradition and a personal touch.
