Barbera from one of Barolo's most revered traditional estates. Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio was founded in 1881; Mauro Mascarello (fourth generation) works alongside his daughter Elena. The Scudetto vineyard ('shield,' for its shape) is in Monforte d'Alba. Same uncompromising approach as the Barolos: no French oak barrels or roto-fermenters, only old Slavonian oak botti purchased in the 1950s.
