Ballot Millot Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres 2019 [NET]
From 85-year-old vines in Genevrières—one of Meursault's finest Premier Cru vineyards, named for the juniper (genévrier) that once grew in its limestone soils. Domaine Ballot-Millot has been rooted in Meursault since the late 18th century; Charles Ballot, the 17th generation, took over in 2000 and initiated a quality renaissance. He works organically, follows the lunar cycle in the cellar, and keeps new oak to a maximum of 25%. Wines age 12 months in barrel, then six months in tank—a philosophy of finesse over power, in the tensile, racy Roulot school of Meursault. The 2019 vintage was harvested September 14 and showed surprising freshness despite warm conditions.
